Building Better Opportunities

Building Better Opportunities (BBO) is designed to help local people move closer to or into employment, improve lives and secure the future prosperity of Worcestershire. Fusion has been successful to date in being awarded three contracts which have brought a £3 million investment into the county.

BBO commenced in Worcestershire in October 2016 and has brought together 13 delivery partners with specialist subject knowledge of housing, homelessness, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, criminal justice and mental ill health offering all of our participants a safe and informed route to move them forwards.

Building Better Opportunities is funded by the European Social Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund. From 2014 – 2020, £11m of European Social Funding (ESF) became available to invest in ‘Social and Economic Inclusion’ tackling the root causes of poverty, promoting social inclusion and driving local jobs and growth.

The Worcestershire programmes developed to invest this money have been shaped by the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) according to local priorities.

Fusion will initially work with more than 1000 participants across Worcestershire with a target of at least 800 of these achieving a positive outcome by either gaining employment, returning to education or training, or actively engaging in job searching. For Fusion, the most important outcome is helping as many people as possible move into employment.

With dedicated one to one support from one of Fusion’s Job Coaches across Worcestershire, we will design a personal package of support based on an individual’s needs and circumstances. By recognising and building on their strengths they will gain the skills and confidence to enter the world of work.

Our Job Coaches work closely with each individual participant to understand their needs and provide guidance and support – from training, education and skills requirements to self-development and personal empowerment. They liaise with the Building Better Opportunities Employment Engagement Team to tailor match employers vacancies with Building Better Opportunities participants ensuring both parties receive the best possible service and outcomes.

Fusion's employment engagement officer Laura Sharratt works with Vestia as part of the Building Better Opportunities team to build lasting partnerships with local businesses to create employment, training and work experience opportunities for participants on the Building Better Opportunities programme.
