The National Lottery Community Fund is the largest funder of community activity in the UK. It puts people in the lead to improve their lives and communities, often through small local projects. Building Better Opportunities is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and ESF Fund, the project is designed to tackle poverty and promote the social inclusion throughout Worcestershire, this project is proud to tell you the story of Helen Hothersall.

Helen joined the BBO project after completing rehabilitation for drug and alcohol dependency, Helen said “Before going through rehabilitation my life was a complete mess. I was addicted to most Class A drugs but also to alcohol. I had been on the hardest journey throughout my life but it led me to BBO.”

During the BBO programme Helen discovered that she would like to work as a mentor one day and support other people that have found themselves in similar situations to her own.

Helen worked with her Job Coach to achieve her goals and completed a variety of training sessions in self-management skills, self-assessment and job searching and created a CV, so she is able to record all of her achievements and apply for suitable jobs in the future.

Helen would like to further her skills and experience by looking at counselling courses and will also be looking to volunteer soon.

Helen said, “All I can say is that the best fruit is always at the top of the tree and to get there you have to climb!”

If you or anyone you know would benefit from the support of a dedicated Job Coach who will work with you to build on your own strengths and abilities to gain the confidence and skills to move into work please get in touch now, we are waiting to hear from you.
